Divine Story, Benefits, and Sacred Sevas of this Auspicious Puja

Jaya Ekadashi, also called Jaya Dvitiya Ekadashi, is a sacred day dedicated to Bhagwan Vishnu. Observed on the 11th day of the lunar calendar, it is an important occasion celebrated with devotion by many in India. Its significance is mentioned in ancient scriptures, especially the Padma Purana

The Legend of Jaya Ekadashi

According to the legend, King Mandhata, a devoted follower of Bhagwan Vishnu, faced many challenges and misfortunes during his rule. Despite his strong devotion, his kingdom struggled, leaving him troubled. During this difficult time, Sage Veda Vyasa told him about the importance of Jaya Ekadashi and advised him to observe it to seek Vishnu's blessings and overcome the troubles in his kingdom.

Following the sage’s guidance, King Mandhata fasted on Jaya Ekadashi with full devotion, chanted the holy name of Maha Vishnu, and performed the prescribed rituals. His sincere observance brought blessings of success, prosperity, and relief from all obstacles. His kingdom flourished under the grace and protection of Bhagwan Vishnu. Since then, Jaya Ekadashi has been known as a day of victory and divine protection for those who observe it with faith and sincerity.

Benefits and Spiritual Importance

Jaya Ekadashi is celebrated not only for the material blessings it brings but also for its profound spiritual value. Fasting on this day is believed to cleanse one’s karma, purify the soul, and bring divine grace. By abstaining from food and dedicating time to prayer and meditation, devotees feel a deeper connection with Shri Maha Vishnu. Observing this fast helps overcome physical, mental, and emotional challenges, offering inner peace and a sense of surrender to Shri Narayana. With faith, devotees entrust their worries to him, confident that he will provide solutions and divine guidance.

The benefits of Jaya Ekadashi are immense. Scriptures state that fasting on this day can lead to freedom from sins and elevate one to a higher spiritual realm. Devotees who observe this Ekadashi with true devotion are believed to receive the ultimate blessing of liberation (moksha) from the cycle of birth and death. Additionally, it is said to grant longevity, prosperity, and the fulfilment of desires. This sacred observance fosters deeper devotion and strengthens the bond with Shriman Narayana, making it a day of great significance for spiritual and material growth.

Detailed Rituals and Seva Description

  • Maha Abhisheka & Sarvalankara Seva: This seva starts with sacred rituals like Panchamrutha Abhisheka (a mix of milk, yogurt, honey, ghee, and sugar) and Dhravya Abhisheka using offerings like coconut, sandalwood paste, and turmeric. These rituals symbolize purity, prosperity, and strength, purifying the devotee’s mind and soul. The Sarvalankara Seva follows, where Bhagwan Vishnu, Sridevi, and BhuDevi are adorned with fresh flowers, special garlands, and jewellery, bringing blessings of health, wealth, and spiritual growth.

Each name in the Ashtottara Shatanamavali highlights a divine quality of Vishnu. The seva concludes with the Maha Mangalarti, where lamps are lit and offered with hymns, symbolizing light's victory over darkness. This purifies the surroundings, fosters peace, and uplifts the spirit.
