Tithi: Margashira Shukla Paksha Trayodashi Bharani

Puja will be held at Shri Kashi Vishwanatha Temple, Bangalore, and you can experience from your home!

Pradosh Puja, an auspicious ritual dedicated to Bhagwan Shiva and Mata Parvati, takes place during the sacred Pradosha period - around twilight on the 13th day of each lunar fortnight, known as Trayodashi. This powerful time, spanning roughly 1.5 hours before and after sunset, is rooted in the Samudra Manthan legend, where gods and demons prayed to Bhagwan Shiva for protection. Participating in Pradosha Puja is believed to ease the impact of challenging planetary alignments, particularly those of Shani and Rahu, bringing blessings of peace, prosperity, and spiritual purification. This Seva is especially recommended for those born under the Revati Nakshatra for profound benefits.

Divine Story, Benefits, and Sacred Sevas of this Auspicious Puja

The Pradosh Puja and associated Maha Mrityunjaya rituals are deeply revered for their alignment with Shri Shiva's ancient Vedic teachings and healing aspects. Below is a detailed breakdown of each ritual component and its significance. Through these detailed elements, the Pradosha Puja serves as a complete spiritual experience, empowering devotees with divine blessings for health, longevity, prosperity, and protection from life's challenges.

  • Maha Rudrabhishek: Bhagwan Shiva, known as Abhishekapriya (lover of the sacred anointment), is honoured through this highly powerful and purifying ritual. The Shiva Linga is anointed with consecrated elements such as honey, curd, ghee, and milk, representing devotion and purity. Rudrabhisheka purifies devotees' souls, removes negative karma, and mitigates planetary doshas. The recitation of the Sri Rudram during the anointment invokes the Rudra form of Bhagwan Shiva, channelling divine energy for peace, prosperity, health, and familial harmony.
  • Kalasha Preparation: Sacred Kalashas filled with water symbolize divine energies, and invoke the blessings of Shri Varuna and holy rivers like Ganga and Yamuna. The Kalasha water is later used to anoint the deity, adding a powerful, sanctifying element. This stage purifies the ritual space and enhances the spiritual impact of the puja, inviting tranquillity and protection for the participants.
  • Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra Chanting (108 recitations): The mantra, known for its protective and healing powers, is chanted to invoke the energy of Shri Shiva as the conqueror of death, ensuring spiritual growth and physical well-being. Chanting this mantra 108 times shields devotees from untimely accidents and ailments, provides karmic cleansing, and facilitates inner peace, mental clarity, and emotional stability.
  • Ashtottararchana with Bilvapatra and Pushpa Offering: This ritual includes the recitation of 108 sacred names of Bhagwan Shiva, symbolizing different aspects of the deity. Bilvapatra (leaves of the bael tree) and flowers are offered as a mark of respect and devotion. Ashtottararchana is believed to cleanse the mind, body, and soul, and bring divine blessings. Each recitation strengthens spiritual awareness and fosters a personal connection with the divine.
  • Mangalarati: As the concluding aarti, this grand ritual involves the waving of lighted lamps before the deity, accompanied by hymns, bell-ringing, and sometimes music. The Mangalarati purifies the surroundings, represents the victory of light over darkness, and reinforces cultural and spiritual identity. It adds a celebratory element to the worship, connecting devotees with their inner light and the divine.
