Tithi: Kartika Shukla paksha Chaturdashi Bharani

Puja will be held at Shri Harihareshwara Temple, Bangalore, and you can experience from your home!

Kartik Purnima, also revered as Tripuri Purnima or Tripurari Purnima, is a sacred festival celebrated by Hindus worldwide with profound devotion and joy. This auspicious full moon night, occurring in the Hindu month of Kartik (typically in November or December), is a time for spiritual reflection, prayer, and divine gratitude. Known as the "Festival of the Lights of the Gods" or "Deva Deepawali" or "Dev Diwali,".  Kartik Purnima commemorates several legendary events. It is believed that on this day, Bhagwan Shri Maha Vishnu took the form of Matsya, a colossal fish, to preserve the Vedas and rescue the sage Manu from a great deluge, symbolizing the preservation of creation. The festival also marks Bhagwan Shiva’s triumph over the powerful demon Tripurasura, an event celebrated as Tripuri Purnima, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness. This divine victory is honoured through the ritual of deep daan, where devotees offer floating lamps on holy rivers, symbolizing the celestial light that illuminated the heavens.

Divine Story, Benefits, and Sacred Sevas of this Auspicious Puja

With deep reverence, JyotirGamaya will be offering special sevas to the divine HariHareshwara (Bhagwan Shiva and Bhagwan Vishnu) in the temple. Through these sacred rituals, we humbly seek their boundless blessings for the well-being, spiritual and material prosperity, and the fulfilment of cherished desires for all devoted Sevakarthas. The symbolism of light during Kartika Deepotsava holds profound spiritual significance, as the diya, or lamp, represents more than just physical light; it reflects the human body, with the flame embodying the soul’s quest for truth and enlightenment. Just as a lamp dispels the darkness around it, our inner flame yearns to illuminate the path of spiritual wisdom. Through devotion, contemplation, and spiritual practice, we gradually cleanse the mind and spirit of accumulated ignorance, anger, greed, and resentment. The diya’s light signifies knowledge, wisdom, and clarity - qualities that guide a seeker toward liberation and lasting peace. Lighting a lamp during this sacred time is an act of self-purification, a conscious decision to dispel inner darkness and awaken self-awareness, compassion, and understanding.

  • Maha Rudrabhisheka and Bilwapatrarpana to Bhagwan Shiva: Known for his love of Abhisheka, Bhagwan Shiva is honored with Maha Rudrabhisheka, an elaborate ritual where His Linga form is anointed with sacred substances like milk, honey, and ghee, accompanied by the recitation of Sri Rudram. This ritual purifies the atmosphere, removes sins, and alleviates planetary doshas (astrological afflictions). Sacred water from kalashas filled in honor of the holy rivers is poured over the Shiva Linga as a symbol of purification. Bilwapatra (bael leaves), symbolic of Shiva's triadic energy, is also offered, further amplifying the blessings for purity and prosperity.
  • Panchamrutha Abhisheka and Alankara Seva to Bhagwan MahaVishnu: Bhagwan Vishnu, revered as Alankara-priya (the lover of adornment), is worshipped through the Panchamrutha Abhisheka, an anointment with five sacred substances symbolizing purity, prosperity, and strength. The seva concludes with a divine Alankara of fresh flowers, Tulasi, jewelry, and Vastram (clothes), evoking Vishnu’s blessings for health, wealth, and peace. Tulasi, believed to be an earthly form of Lakshmi, is a particularly powerful offering in this ritual, known for its spiritual and medicinal significance.
  • Karthika Deeparadhana (Festival of Light and Self-Realization): In the auspicious Kartika month, Deeparadhana symbolizes the lighting of inner wisdom. A thali of 12 lamps is lit with jaggery and ghee wicks, embodying divine light dispelling ignorance and negativity. As devotees offer their devotion through this Aarti, they embrace inner purification, experiencing Atma Gyan - the knowledge of self. The 12-lamp Aarti illuminates both the temple and the lives of the sevakarthas, embodying hope, peace, and spiritual clarity.

Sevakarthas can choose a single seva or combine multiple sevas.
