Puja will be held at sacred temple, and you can experience from your home!
A rare sacred month blessed by Bhagwan Vishnu Himself. A divine window that opens once every 32 months to heal karma, invite grace, and transform your spiritual journey.
Adhik Maas, also known as Adhika Masa, Mal Maas, or Purushottam Maasam, is a rare and sacred lunar month that appears once every 32 months as a divine gift from Bhagwan Vishnu Himself. Neglected at first and considered inauspicious, this month was accepted and blessed by Bhagwan Vishnu who declared it the most meritorious period for bhakti, daana, and karma shuddhi. What was once called Mal Maas became Purushottam Maas, and every puja, homa, and seva performed during this time yields multiplied punya far beyond ordinary months.
Adhik Maas is the most powerful time for karmic cleansing. Sevas and vratas performed in Mal Maas dissolve deep karmic burdens and bring lasting spiritual relief.
Adhika Masa is ideal for easing planetary afflictions of Rahu, Ketu, Shani, and Mangal through sincere homas and shanti pujas performed with proper sankalpa.
Daana and offerings made during Purushottam Maas pacify ancestral energies, inviting their blessings upon your family and ensuring peace for future generations.
Bhagwan Vishnu Himself presides over Adhik Maas. Every act of devotion in this Mal Maas, however small, earns multiplied punya and accelerates inner transformation.
WHAT IS ADHIK MAAS?
What is Adhik Maas? Understanding Adhika Masa, Mal Maas and Purushottam Maasam
Adhik Maas is a special extra month that appears in the Hindu lunar calendar approximately once every 32 months, 16 days, and 8 hours. In English, it simply means "extra month" or "additional month." However, its spiritual weight goes far beyond a calendar adjustment.
This sacred month is known by several names across different parts of Bharat:
The need for Adhik Maas arises from the difference between the solar year of 365 days and the lunar year of approximately 354 days. To keep the lunar calendar aligned with the solar one and to preserve the accurate timing of festivals, vratas, and seasonal rituals, an extra month is added periodically. This is similar to the concept of a leap year, but far richer in spiritual meaning.
While other months in the Hindu calendar are each governed by a specific devata, Adhik Maas originally had no presiding deity. This left it without divine patronage, making it seem empty and inauspicious. People avoided auspicious ceremonies during this time. It came to be called Mal Maas, a month considered unfit for weddings, griha pravesh, and other important life events.
But what seemed like a curse became the greatest blessing in all of Sanatana Dharma.
THE DIVINE LEGEND OF ADHIK MAAS
The Sacred Story: How Mal Maas Became Purushottam Maas
The legend of how Adhik Maas received divine status is one of the most beautiful and moving stories in our Puranic tradition.
When the extra lunar month found itself without a presiding deity, it felt deeply sorrowful and humiliated. Every other month had a devata, a name, a purpose, and a place of honour in the cosmic order. But this month stood alone, unclaimed, and called Mal Maas by those who wished to avoid it.
In its grief, the extra month approached Bhagwan Vishnu, the preserver and sustainer of the universe, and placed its sorrow before Him. It asked for divine grace and for a place of dignity in the sacred calendar.
Bhagwan Vishnu, who is ever compassionate and ever accessible to those who approach Him with devotion, smiled and said:
"I accept this month as My own. I give it My own name, Purushottama, which is My supreme name among all names. Whoever observes this month with devotion, performs daana, japa, puja, and vrata during this time, shall receive blessings multiplied beyond all ordinary measures. Their karmas shall be lightened, their griefs shall be reduced, and My grace shall flow into their lives abundantly."
From that sacred declaration, Mal Maas was forever transformed into Purushottam Maas. What was considered the most inauspicious month became the most auspicious. The month that had no deity became the month of the Supreme Deity Himself.
This transformation carries a profound spiritual teaching: even what appears broken, rejected, or worthless in the eyes of the world can become the greatest vessel of divine grace when it surrenders to Bhagwan with faith.
This is the essence of Adhika Masa.

Seva 2: Parama Ekadashi / Purushottam Ekadashi Maha Puja Seva
Parama Ekadashi, also known as Purushottam Ekadashi, falls during the Krishna Paksha of Adhik Maas. This Ekadashi carries the name of Bhagwan Vishnu Himself and is declared in the Puranas as uniquely powerful for liberation, peace, and transformation. Observing this Ekadashi with a sincere sankalpa and proper seva is said to remove the accumulated karma of many janmas.
What the Seva Includes:
Spiritual Benefits:
Seva 3: Akhanda Deepa Seva (Deepaarti Seva)
The Deepa, or sacred lamp, holds a central place in Sanatana Dharma. Light symbolises divine consciousness, the dispelling of ignorance, and the presence of the divine. An Akhanda Deepa, a lamp that burns continuously without interruption, is considered a beacon of divine energy, drawing blessings into your life in a sustained and powerful way.
This Akhanda Deepaarti Seva will be offered to Shriman Narayana and Shri Parameshwara in their respective temples on 30 May 2026 (Saturday) and 01 June 2026 (Monday), along with patra and flower offering, Archana Seva, Phal and Coconut offering, and Mangalaarti.
Spiritual Benefits:
Seva 4: Gau Seva During Adhik Maas
In Sanatana Dharma, the cow or Gomata is revered as one of the most sacred beings on earth. The Puranas declare that all 33 koti devatas reside within the body of Gomata. Feeding, caring for, and protecting cows is considered one of the highest dharmic acts a human being can perform.
During Adhik Maas, Gau Seva carries extraordinary spiritual weight. It is directly connected to both graha dosha relief and pitru tarpan, making it one of the most complete remedial sevas available during Purushottam Maas.
Spiritual Benefits:
Seva 5: Food and Groceries Offering to Old Age Homes and Orphanages
Among all the forms of daana prescribed in the Puranas, Annadana, the offering of food, holds the highest position. The Skanda Purana states: "There is no greater daana than Annadana." When food is offered to the elderly and to children without parents, the punya generated is immense because these are the most vulnerable and deserving among us.
During Adhik Maas, this seva becomes a direct act of Narayana Seva, since Bhagwan Vishnu sees Himself in every living being who is hungry, suffering, or in need.
Spiritual Benefits:
Seva 6: Navagraha Shanti Homa
The nine grahas of Vedic Jyotish, Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Budha, Guru, Shukra, Shani, Rahu, and Ketu, govern specific aspects of our karma and life experience. When their influence is aggravated due to planetary positions, dashas, or birth chart doshas, life becomes difficult in specific ways. The Navagraha Shanti Homa is a powerful Vedic fire ritual performed to pacify and balance the influence of all nine grahas simultaneously.
This homa will be conducted on 24 May 2026 or 14 June 2026 by experienced Vedic pandits with proper sankalpa in your name.

Bhagwan Vishnu accepted this month as His own and named it after Himself, making it a sacred period for bhakti, daana, and spiritual practice.
Q2. Why is Adhik Maas called Mal Maas?
Adhik Maas was originally called Mal Maas, meaning the impure or unwanted month, because it had no presiding deity and people considered it inauspicious. It was avoided for auspicious ceremonies. Q3. Why is Adhik Maas called Purushottam Maas?
Bhagwan Vishnu, moved by the sorrow of the extra month which had no deity, accepted it as His own and gave it His highest name, Purushottama, which means "the Supreme Being." From that day, the month has been known as Purushottam Maas in honour of Bhagwan Vishnu's divine compassion and grace.
